Here is an example of what we may encounter during our content moderation:
You can see from the speed curve that there is an initial pause from 00:17:18. The video maker has cut the pause to ensure smooth playback of the video. This is quite well done, as you can't even see the break, but unfortunately the GPS tracker (bike computer, GPS app, etc.) was still running and continued to record the travel time. As a result, the video is no longer synchronized with the GPS track after the pause. In such a case, we need to change the original video to unlisted, to make it a section from the start of the video to the pause.
There are two possible solutions:
-
If the pause is short enough (stop or red light), don't make any changes. You can download the video as is.
-
If the pause is long enough (> 3 or 4 minutes), please only download the first part of the video from the beginning to the pause. It is not intended to download the entire video, as the second part will no longer be synchronized with the GPS track.
On the other hand, if you have a little time or interest, here's a little tutorial by a videographer to edit the GPX file and remove the pause from the original track and ensure that the video and its GPS track remain synchronized throughout the video recording and once the pause has been removed... The software is called GPS Track Editor at http://www.gpstrackeditor.com.
"I've put together a little manual to help you remove the gaps in your videos when you're waiting for a red light or crossing. Personally, I hate pauses of this kind, whether during real cycling or training at home. That's why I usually try to cut them out of my videos - it takes about 15 minutes. Here's a little manual to help you remove a pause from a video:
-
First, cut out the part of your video that contains an awkward gap using any video editor (I prefer VirtualDub).
-
Use the free GPS Track Editor application to locate and eliminate gaps in the GPS track:
-
Load the GPS track of your trip.
-
Locate and mark the gap in your GPS track - the track is divided into two segments - each of a different color on the map.
-
You can use the auto-discovery tool for gaps longer than a minute.
-
Save the newly created segment - a new track will appear in the left panel.
-
Modify the time of the first point of the new track (e.g. if the interval cut in the video is 20 seconds, subtract 20 seconds from the initial time).
-
Delete the second segment of the first track and merge the two tracks. Save to a new file and you're ready to go.
