Filming a route to share on Kinomap is easier than it seems. With just a bit of equipment, you can create a realistic and immersive running simulation.
We recommend a solution that is both simple and effective, and accessible to everyone.
🎒 Required equipment:
- A GoPro-style camera
- A blank 64 GB micro SD card (minimum)
- A fully charged battery
- A stabilizer to improve video smoothness
🎬 Two filming styles
Depending on the route size, your preferences, and the distance, you have two options:
1. Leader of the pack 🥇
You film before the race starts, at the front of the route. This gives the viewer the feeling of leading the race.
Start filming 30 to 45 minutes before the start to capture the atmosphere.
For races longer than 10 km, plan to have multiple videographers, spaced approximately every 6 km.
2. In the crowd 🏃
You film during the race, in the middle of the pack. This provides a more immersive experience.
This approach works well on shorter routes with enough space to run and film safely.
⚙️ Technical tips
- Position the camera at a height of about 1.90 meters
- Run at a steady pace of 6 km/h (or 10:00 per km)
- Film continuously until the end of the route
- Use a stabilizer to reduce shaking and improve video quality
A GoPro is ideal for better image quality, but a recent smartphone can also do the job.
Don’t forget to record GPS data at the same time using a GPS watch or an app like Strava or Garmin.
