Video Marker Interview: thereynes
What is your name?
My name is Pierre Reynes, but I am better known as thereynes on Kinomap.
Where do you live?
I live in Northern California, USA since 1999, before that I lived in Paris, France.
What is your favorite sport?
Anything on two wheels really! Road cycling, mountain biking, gravel riding, motorcycling, dirt biking…
How many years have you been using Kinomap?
I started playing with Kinomap in 2010, using my smartphone to record, so about 10 years ago! At the time it was just a geolocated videos sharing platform.
How did you find out about Kinomap?
In 2010 my friend Philippe Moity asked me for my opinion on Kinomap technology and the Kinomap account "thereynes" was created for me, I am still using this account to this day... It is a very different product in 2020, they have done an incredible job!
What type of training activities do you use on Kinomap?
I use Kinomap for cycling activities, in both Discovery and Challenge modes, but I also try to set up multiplayer activities when I can. I like to train using Discovery mode as it makes the video more realistic and the sound is not distorted, when I am in the racing mood I use Challenge mode.
How did you discover the « reward program »?
I was informed about the new reward program in 2018 and got my first reward in January 2019.
What type of videos do you record for Kinomap?
I record mostly road cycling and mountain biking videos for Kinomap. In the past, I have also uploaded videos from planes, cars, and motorcycles.
In which countries did you record your videos?
I have recorded most of my videos in the USA (Northern California to be precise) but will record in other places/countries when I can. I have uploaded a few videos recorded in France and in Mexico.
What kind of videos are you uploading?
Whenever possible, I try to upload cycling videos that show something of interest to Kinomap users. That could be a unique viewpoint, a famous place or monument, a fun trail, or simply a beautiful sky. I also recently started recording cycling events like cyclosportives or fondos, like the Truckee Dirt Fondo or the Grasshopper Huffmaster gravel grinder, unfortunately, 2020 has not been a good year with all the events being canceled.
How many videos have you uploaded in total?
I have uploaded over 500 videos over the years, but they are not all available as I regularly take older videos offline.
What type of equipment do you use?
I record my videos using a GoPro camera, I actually just received the new GoPro HERO9 Black yesterday, and my GPS tracks come from a Garmin cycling computer, currently a Garmin Edge 830. On the bike side, my road bike is a Specialized Roubaix, my gravel bike a Specialized Diverge, my mountain bikes Specialized Stumpjumper and Specialized Enduro. Yes, I do like Specialized bikes, maybe I should be sponsored by them! ;)
And to finish, what is your favorite training place?
Some of my favorite training videos are in beautiful Marin County (North of the San Francisco Golden Gate bridge) and in Gold Country (around Grass Valley / Nevada City, California).
