Are you a sports fan, especially of cycling, running, walking or rowing? Do you love discovering new landscapes and want to share your outdoors with Kinomap users, but don't know how to make a great geolocated videos?
Here's all the advice you need to become an expert Kinomap video maker.
Choosing your camera
There's no hiding the fact that technology is advancing rapidly, and we've come to realize that the quality of our best videos from just 2 years ago is already outdated.
If you want to offer top-quality videos, then it's vital to be up to date with your equipment.
There are many brands out there, and we're not going to list them all, but we can rely on our experience and the rendering you provide.
Currently, the GoPro brand is the market leader, offering highly competitive and relatively inexpensive sports cameras.
To be more precise, we recommend the latest GoPro models:
Once you've chosen your camera, you'll be able to test the different features it offers, depending on the routes you take.
But one thing's for sure: the most important element in making a quality video is STABILIZATION, and that's what these cameras are all about!
Choosing your GPS meter
Another very important element in ensuring that your geolocated video is as realistic as possible is your choice of GPS.
Indeed, even if you have a quality GoPro camera that includes a GPS sensor, it's preferable to record your route using a watch or other GPS meter. We recommend Garmin, which is very accurate.
You can also use applications like Strava, which will also be fairly accurate.
Be careful, though, if your route takes you through woods, mountains or steep terrain, GPS can sometimes be inaccurate (Kinomap will be able to adjust certain routes).
Positioning your camera
As a general rule, it's best to have an unobstructed view: avoid having another cyclist in front of you, avoid a view of the handlebars or front wheel.
For video makers filming exclusively on the road: the best set-up is to position your camera under your speedometer. Don't hesitate to buy this accessory or one like it: Support GoPro

For video makers filming with a mountain bike: if your camera is perfectly stabilized, ground movements will hardly be felt. You can then use the aforementioned montage. You can also attach your camera to your helmet, but make sure it's securely fastened to avoid shaking and damaging your camera. Finally, you can also use a torso mount, but it's essential to raise the camera sufficiently so that the user has sufficient visibility.
It's worth noting that when mountain biking, it's best to film in dry weather, so that no spray obstructs the camera lens.

For video makers who film while running or walking: it will be very difficult to have a perfectly stabilized video without an additional stabilizer. In fact, the swinging movements are very important, so the stabilization of the camera alone is often insufficient. This is the kind of stabilizer you can buy for perfectly stabilized videos: Stabilizers for GoPro
Choosing your route and when you turn
Tastes and colors are indisputable, but one thing's for sure: we all appreciate courses with beautiful scenery. Sometimes, we may be equipped with the most powerful camera, but we live in a region where the scenery isn't wonderful. In this case, we really must give priority to outings in bright sunshine and with as few stops as possible. For example, when you're out and about, or on vacation, don't forget your camera to capture and share your best experiences.
The length of your route
Once again, there's something for everyone. You can offer videos from 25 minutes to 1h30. You can also offer longer videos and then divide them into several sections to give users the maximum benefit from the different difficulties or landscapes of your routes. It's important to remember, however, that on average, our users train for 30 to 40 minutes per session.
Your route title
Before uploading your ride, it's very important to think about the title you're going to give it. After all, it's essential to make people want to train on your video. Make sure everyone understands your title.
Your cover image
Like the title, your video's cover image is very important. By default, the cover photo will be the first image of your video. You can then look for an image in your video that will make the user want to train on your course. All you have to do is click (at the right moment) on the camera in the top right-hand corner of your video (don't hesitate to pause your video).
To sum up, here are the 7 most important points to remember when making a quality video for Kinomap:
1- Use a quality camera with excellent stabilization
2- Ensure good GPS reception
3- Shoot in good weather
4- Don't pause
5- Propose a minimum 25-minute video
6- Add a catchy title
7- Provide a quality cover image
